Early detection and removal of colon polyps and cancer is curative.
If you are responsible with your efforts, the likelihood that you will
die with colon cancer should be zero. Nobody looks forward to this test,
but you would look forward less to a major abdominal surgery and a colostomy
that may be necessary if colon cancer is not diagnosed early.
Here are the recommendations from the United States Preventive Services
Task Force: http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstf/uspscolo.htm
And here is pertinent information from the American Gastroenterology
Association, the physician group that does colonoscopic screening for
cancer. They are the most important men and women on earth when it comes
to colon health: http://www.gastro.org/clinicalRes/brochures/cc_screening.html
You will have to be very creative to persuade me not to recommend this
test to you! Every year, several patients are prevented from developing
colon cancer because of this test just in my practice alone.
